DaVita Kidney Awareness 5K Run|Walk

DaVita Kidney Awareness

Help us raise awareness about kidney disease and help support those whose lives have been affected by kidney disease. Approximately 1 in 6 Americans have kidney disease, but most people do not even know it! It could be you, a family member, or one of your friends…wouldn’t it be best to know if there is a problem before it is too late? There are often there are no symptoms of kidney disease until the late stages.
It doesn’t have to be this way. Kidney disease can be detected with simple blood and urine tests. If caught early, its progression to kidney failure may be delayed or prevented. The Kidney Trust will provide everyone who pre-registers through the event web site a kidney screening at NO CHARGE!

The Peoples Marathon

In 2008 I had the great privilege to run the 33rd Annual Marine Corps Marathon. That marathon was one of my all time favorites. For the most part it was a great run but it tested you at every mile marker and especially when you had a drill Sergeant yelling: “you will not walk across my mile marker!!! pick it up..pick it up” believe me it was great motivation. The finish line however was the toughest part, wow that last 2/10 of a mile was a killer and there was no way with that many people watching and cheering that you could walk…. you had to finish strong. It was well worth it. I didn’t think it was so cool at the time but now the pain is gone and I’m proud to have been part of such a great marathon. I guess now that they have been voted with the #1 medal of all US marathons I’m gonna have to go and earn that one  as well. Here is the 2008 medal, Dave and I finishing  up with a beer… Cheers!

Spring is here, lets get out there

Ok runners by now several great events have already taken place, allowing you the opportunity to feel the spring time fever, breaking out of your cabin fever, stretching out and putting all that god awful treadmill training to work. Yes the marathon season will mostly be in full swing by the time the  Flying Pig  Marathon takes place. Maybe go check out Bob Roncker’s and see if a new pair of running shoes are in order join a running group or sign up for a few fun running events.  All in all it should be a fun year to create  some new PR’s and go beyond your comfort level and run some distances you haven’t ever tried. Good luck I’ll see you out there.
